A Cottage Garden for Climate Change
A Cottage Garden for Climate Change was the third garden designed by 'Back Gate Gardens' (now a group of three) for 'BBC Gardeners World Live' in 2006. The garden measured 5m x 5m and faced south. The garden was designed to show how the traditional look and feel of a cottage garden can be achieved in a more contemporary setting and within the environmental realities of climate change and hosepipe bans. We wanted to create a garden that reflected the experiences of the majority of visitors to the show and provided practical ideas they could take away and use in their own gardens. The garden was awarded a Bronze medal. By co-incidence, the weather that year was very hot and dry and many areas were subject to a hosepipe ban. The garden was featured on radio and tv programmes including 'Gardeners World' on BBC2 on television.
